Winning ad checklist

Not every long-running ad is a winner. This list orders the seven things to look at before you copy an ad or put it in your report.

Seven checks, in short

Each item is something you can look up by hand in the Meta Ad Library. AdVantage Scope writes the same information on top of the card.

  1. How many days has it been running?

Look at the number of days from the ad's start date to today. An ad that started recently is still being tested; time makes the call.

  2. Which stage is it in?

The four stages on the card badge: Test, Growth, Winner, Ended. Winner is only an ad that has run 45 days or more and is still active.

  3. Is it still active?

An ad of the same age that has been taken down is in the Ended stage. A stopped ad is not a winner; the advertiser switched it off.

  4. How many variations does it have?

Look at the creative count on top of the card. Several images or videos in the same ad show that the advertiser is testing different creatives together.

  5. Does the button ask for a purchase?

Buttons such as Shop Now, Buy Now and Order Now go straight to a sale. Judge an ad that collects leads or asks for a follow separately from one that sells.

  6. Where does the landing page go?

Open the ad's link. Is it a product page, a collection or the home page? Ads that go to a Shopify store are marked separately for product research.

  7. Does it carry an EU transparency statement?

If the card shows the EU badge, the ad carries an EU transparency statement; this shows the ad also runs in the EU and the advertiser targets the EU too.

What is a winning ad?
In this list and on the AdVantage Scope card badge, Winner is an ad that has run 45 days or more and is still active. If an advertiser keeps an ad on for that long, it is most likely working for them.
Why is a stopped ad not a winner?
A stopped ad no longer spends money. Even if it ran for a long time, its badge becomes Ended; the advertiser let it go.
Can I do these checks without the extension?
Yes. The Meta Ad Library shows every ad's start date and status. AdVantage Scope writes the same information on the card as a day count and a stage badge, and lets you filter cards by stage, duration and button.
Which plan has the button filter?
Filtering cards by button is in the Starter plan. The stage filter is in the Starter plan and the EU transparency filter in the Free plan.
Is the checklist free?
Yes. The summary is on this page, free and without sign-up.
